From download to your first caption

Your AnyCaptions guide.

The app shows a floating caption for the audio you hear on Windows. Everything runs on your computer: the sound never leaves it.

Installation

  1. Sign in with Google, GitHub or Discord on the Sign in ↗ page.
  2. Go back to the home page ↗, download the installer and run it. No configuration needed.
  3. Open AnyCaptions: the caption and the settings are ready to go.

Requirements: Windows 11 x64. To verify integrity, the installer SHA-256 is shown next to the published version.

First steps

  1. Open the caption settings.
  2. Select the audio output you use (headphones or speakers).
  3. Play any video, game or call with speech and click Start.
  4. Adjust size, colors and position however you like.

Audio output

The app listens to the sound that already reaches your headphones or speakers — just pick the same device Windows is using. No microphone or virtual cable needed.

Overlay and shortcuts

In edit mode, drag the caption anywhere and resize it from the sides. When locked, the controls disappear and clicks pass through the caption — it never gets in the way of your game or video.

Default shortcut: Ctrl + Alt + L — locks and unlocks the overlay

You can also bring the window back from the Windows tray icon. For games, prefer windowed or borderless mode; exclusive fullscreen can hide the overlay.

Models and languages

AnyCaptions uses three AI models, all running locally:

  • Nemotron Streaming (NVIDIA) — real-time speech recognition. Ships with the installer.
  • OPUS-MT (Helsinki-NLP) — English ↔ Portuguese translation on the CPU. Ships with the installer.
  • Riva Translate (NVIDIA) — translation into 37 languages on the GPU. Not in the installer: when you select the Riva model in the settings, the app shows a Download (2.8 GB) button and installs everything itself, with integrity verification.

In short: after installing, you only need to download something if you want Riva’s 37 languages — and that is one click inside the app itself.

Privacy

In the app: audio and captions stay on your computer. Nothing is sent to the internet, no history is recorded, and the app works offline once installed.

On the site: downloading requires signing in with Google, GitHub or Discord. We keep only the basic provider profile — name, e-mail and photo — and a record of which versions you downloaded. We do not send e-mails and we do not share your data.

You can delete your account at any time on the My account page; this permanently erases the profile and the download history. An already installed app keeps working normally.

Licenses

The models have their own licenses, which allow this use and this redistribution:

The AnyCaptions source code is on GitHub ↗.

Troubleshooting

  • No caption? Check that speech is playing and that the output selected in the app matches the device Windows is using.
  • Overlay gone? Use Ctrl + Alt + L or the tray icon. In games, switch to windowed mode.
  • Riva disabled? Select the Riva model in the settings and use the download button; a compatible GPU is required.
  • If the problem persists, note the app and Windows versions and open an issue ↗.
